Growth of the Human Population

It is a known fact that the human population is currently facing a state of exponential growth, even though, this specie has k-selected strategies.
The human population remained stable until the Industrial Revolution -- with the exception of the crucial decrease due to Black Death, during the fourteenth century. One of the factor that was most important for this boost in the population growth is known as hygiene. Countries more industrialized tend to have a greater population, since death rate is drop to low levels.


Age Pyramids

Age pyramids are tools that assist to assess a population's potential for growth. It shows the percentage of males and females in different ages categories. An upright triangle-shaped pyramid indicates that in the population there are more births than death, which means a rapid growth.  A rectangle-shaped pyramid indicates a stable population, the number of births is roughly equal to the number of death. Inverted triangle-shaped pyramid indicates a decline in the population.
