Community Change

The process of repopulation of a devastated area is called succession. It is driven by abiotic and biotic factors, for example climate change and interspecific competition. Primary succession begins where there is no soil present, by which means, the vegetation is the first to grow in that area. The first species to colonize a region is called pioneer community. They tend to be small and able to grow in harsh conditions.  Climax community is the latecomers of the new environment. Secondary succession is the process of repopulation of a certain area after an ecological disturbance.
